Interesting and yet checking one of my cast iron lids I find no bumps, just dimples. Yup, reverse spikes. Wondering if that serves the same purpose.
 
My potjies and dutch ovens lids have no humps or ridges.
They are not enamelled though, but even the enamelled have none.
I'm sure that as long as they close well, the moisture will condensate against the lid and drip back on the food regardless
