I've done 5 minute tri tips in my pizza oven, cooked directly on the brick floor and they came out great. The trick is to bring the tri tip to room temp before cooking.
Tri tip isn't a common cut in Australia. I'm not even sure if Ozzie butchers would know what it is. A guy in Western Australia Chris imports it from Tasmania, other side of the country, I get all my brisket, tri tip and ribs through him at the moment. It's beautiful grass fed beef!! I bought 40kg last time I saw him and had a shelf in the fridge collapse.
