Why would you use a donation collection service that is going to siphon off over $1000 of the $7000 goodwill donation money?

Not sure who that quote is directed at, but I'll field it. Your math is way off, not sure where you got those numbers. On $7000 Go fund me would take about $203 plus .30 cents a transaction IF everyone donated exactly what it says they did. Most people opt to include the processing fees and Gofundme's cut into their donation, so if it says they donated 50, they really donated 55, and paid all the fees on their donation for us.
So, even after taking $203 for themselves, we would still be left with $6797 that we didn't have before, all of that money going to veterans. I'm ok with that. Its the price of doing business. Do you have any idea how much work it is to organize an event like this? One entirely reliant on volunteers and donations? Its a massive undertaking. The only way we could do this with no transaction fees would be by asking everyone to mail us checks. First of all, who the hell is going to do that? Clicking a link, filling in 4 text fields and clicking done is easy, its quick, its right now. Second of all, we are volunteering our time, we all have day jobs, none of us have the time to deal with all the paper work that would be involved in processing $7000 worth of $25 checks. Its just absurd.
And we went back and looked at last year's donation totals just to confirm, after all was said and done, Gofundme took 3.5% total, not the 15% you claim.
If you feel strongly about the fee, please feel free to send us a check. Payable to Midwest BBQ Outreach.

We also have a pay pal link on the website, but they also charge a transaction fee.
I look forward to your donation. Thanks for the inquiry!
