I just added the Nomex gasket to my new OK Joe Highland cook chamber. But now, the lid won't close all the way because of the gasket(especially along the top) interfering with it.

How do you get around this since adding gaskets is a pretty normal thing. I've seen people put door latches but that's another problem because from what I've read, on the Highland there isn't enough space for the latch to be installed and bolted on the sides and if you can get it, then it interferes with the firebox lid being opened when the latch is shut tight.

But Smitty- think of the children!

(The children of the guys who sell all that "practically required" gasket material)

The Highland only needs three mods imo:

Charcoal Basket (Firebox)
Convection Plate (Chamber)
Thermometer Grommet (Chamber)

Start with removing the top gasket. That may be all that is required.
