I posted a photo in wp the other day of one of the whitetail deer I got during rifle season. Adams asked about the tri tip. I usually cut them up but decided to find this one and cook it separately.
Not sure if you'll see this Adams but here's what I came up with.
Some of the meat...
the deer field dressed at 160lb so the tri tip wasn't very large...
hydrated some of the morel mushrooms from spring...
found some wild sandhill plums in the freezer I had saved for wine and jelly...
made a sauce with the plums first...
started the morels next with a bit of olive oil, butter, scallions and minced garlic...
salt and peppered and gave the tri tip a quick grill...I prefer venison fairly rare.
That's it.
Some sliced venison tri tip with sandhill plum sauce and wild morels...
I really enjoyed the meal. It was simple, but reminded me of why I hunt.
The morels, wild sandhill plums and venison just seem to go together.
Thanks for looking!
