Thermometer "cord" ok?

Just bought a new Taylor thermo. Want to put the unit outside my WSM, the probe in the meat, and run the "cord" (that connects the probe to the unit) through the eyelet holes.

For every thermometer I've ever had, the cord has been braided wire, and the above procedure works fine. The new thermometer, however, has a silicone cord. Any problems using my old procedure with the new thermometer?

If you feel the need to protect the cord, wrap it in HD foil. It will keep it from failing in the first 10 minutes. I can't promise anything, but it should help.

I've melted 2 of those.

That's just wrong for a pit probe not to be braided ss. What are they designed for? On the package they should give you some type of rating for the probe/s.
