(I’m going to be posting a number of reviews over the next month or so. In addition to this review, I’ll also be taking a look at the Pit Boss pellet grill/smoker, some rubs, some flavoring agents, some pellets and another smoker.)

Are you a connoisseur of cutting boards?

I was going to go with some stronger alliteration but resisted the urge.

My tendency is to just grab what’s nearby and go with it. If it’s plastic, fine. If it’s wood, fine. They are stored in a cabinet and epitomize function over form. I’m not unaware that there are high-end cutting boards and manufacturers and I have nothing against them, I just haven’t had the experience of using one.

That changed recently.

Endgrain is a company located in Louisville, the town famous for the Louisville Slugger baseball bats. I’m not sure if they are owned by Pit Barrel Company or if they are two separate companies, but you can find their products on PBC’s website:

https://pitbarrelcooker.com/pages/endgrain

According to the site, end grain refers to how the wood is cut. According to the manufacturer: “The term “end grain” refers to the surface produced from a cross-section of the tree’s trunk, as opposed to “face grain” which is wood cut lengthwise.”

The boards are made from walnut and maple and they are gorgeous. Yes, I know. Visual aesthetics are subjective. Not here, Mr. Pedantic. Please take a look at the kajillion photos below.

They come in three sizes, each with a deeper-than-normal channel that is sloped. Yes, sloped. Juices easily run easily to the spillway for easy pouring. One side is for cutting, the other for display.

Sizes:
Large - 24 by 18 by 2
Medium - 18 by 14 by 2
Small - 16 by 12 by 1 ¾

Is it solid? Impressively so. This board has heft (see the last image below). I’ve only had this for a couple of weeks, so this is speculation, but I’m confident the board will be as functional in a decade as it is now.

So, what do we have: a cutting board that melds form and function, is built to last, is innovative, and is suited for dual-use (cutting board on one side, displaying food on the other).

Three bonuses: The boards ship within 24 hours and PBC is known for exemplary customer service. If you’re a novice to high-end cutting boards, as I am, they also sell accessories, including soap, oil and wax.

Am I happy with the Endgrain cutting board? Excessively.

Sure looks and sounds like a nice board. Thanks for the review. I did notice you have a Knuckle Sandwich too. What are your thoughts on it? I have seen many mixed reviews but, have always been interested.

I made a mistake in aligning the photos. The image I labeled with the channel is actually an indent for the hands to pick up the board. You can see the channel to pour the juice in the lower left of the board in the photo with the Le Crueset.

Sorry.

It's actually my sister's knife. She's the photographer in the family. I've only used it a handful of times, but I liked it. It felt good in the hand, cut well and maintained it's edge.

Cant beat top notch board. Pops and I have wood working shop in garage and we make them along with charcuterie boards. We get live edge slabs of hard wood to make them. Here is one I just finished for myself. Havent set router table up yet for juice groove but plan to on next one
