I have never owned one before and would like to get something to hold me over until I talk myself into spending 500+ for a Hobart meat slicer. Primary use would be slicing Brisket. I have heard they are good for cleaning crappie too? Thanks!

I have a Rapala Deluxe Electric Fillet Knife kit. It comes in a hard case 12V with battery clips and a 110V adaptor. The cord must be 15' long and it has a 6" and 8" blades.... somewhare around $50. Can't say how well they work on crappie, but I like it on trout and walleye.

I gotta agree with thirdeye. That Rappala kit is a nice knife. You can get em at WM.

thanks all , ill check into that Rappala. It sounds like it should give me the versatility im looking for - slicing brisket and cleaning the occasional fish (most of them end up in my pond out back).

Don't know if a filet version has a long enough blade as most brisket slicers are 12-14 in.
I do know they will filet the hell out of a bucket of fish!
