Wife wanted wings for supper so I came up with the great idea of doing a cook-off and comparing wings from the vortex and the RT 590. Seasoned all wings with Killer Hogs AP Seasoning (great on wings if you have never tried it). Did hot wings, BBQ wings, and 2 Oakridge Smokey Chili Lime AP rub.
Before the cook I had all guesses it wouldn't be close. The Vortex in the Kettle is amazing at wings.
So after my wife and I ate the eings we discussed our conclusions. We both agreed the wings on the Vortex were better, but not by much at all. I put Fancy on 400* and let it ride for ~50 min. The RT 590 did an excellent job with the wings and I wouldn't hesitate cooking them on it again. Another conclusion we drew that I had never paid attention to before is how much crispier flats get than drumettes.
The last thing we both agreed on is the dry rubbed Chili Lime wings were far and away the best wing out of all. Not even close! This is a big deal too, I am totally a sauce guy. Oakridge Smokey Chili Lime AP rub is amazing.
The last picture was taken to reaffirm that no chickens died in vain for the sake of this cook-off.
