UDS Barrel Question

I've been looking for smooth sided drums like that. They are really hard to find, that's a great price. My only concern would be how thick it is. But for that price it's definitely worth a try. Let me know if you get it how it works out.

I actually ordered one yesterday. Looking at the specs on it, it looks like the weight of the drum is consistent with other "normal" drums. So hopefully that means it is legit lol. I did find out that it is not lined so that's a plus.

I'd be really worried about what they had been used for. Were they storing food oil? Industrial grade solvents that leeched into the metal? Military grade mind control drugs?

Personally, I wouldn't risk it.

Also, the one review on that site for these is pretty great...

These are great for storing money!

These 55 gallon drums are great! I ended up buying 7 of them so that I could bury my $80 million in the New Mexico desert. Hope my brother-in-law doesn't find them!

Yeah, after that Q&A, I don't think that I would risk it. But, after I win that $700 million powerball tonight, I will get a few to bury it in. I found straight-sided 55 gal. drums online at The Cary Co. When I get ready for my UDS build, that will probably be the one. $70-ish bucks, but unlined.

do a google search in your area , I found 4 container companies that sells them new and got a heavy duty one for $48 .

Says they're new.

Too bad, this looked promising. Look at the Q&A:

Thank you for your question.

Fyi those are 18 gauge. 16 gauge is more desirable if you can find them.

Pretty great review? I would call it a (Breaking) Bad review!

Got the barrel in last week. It was a little less than $40 shipped. This barrel had some kind of epoxy glue in it but it had been completely emptied. I burned it out really good twice. Once with a big fire and once with a weed burner. Got it completely sanded out then I washed it out with soap and water. I wiped the inside really good with mineral spirits to dry the water then started my assembly. When I get to a computer I will try to upload some pics of the finished product. It looks awesome in my opinion being a flat sided barrel. I would definitely buy another one due to the price being so low.

Here is a picture of the finished barrel. I think it turned out awesome. Cooks just like a Gateway at a fraction of the cost. Parts from UDSparts.com are solid. Highly recommend them if you are looking to go the kit route for your UDS build.
