Summer Project: Cook N Kettle SR

Wow, that is an amazing cooker, and what a score!

Really looking forward to seeing your progress as you complete the restoration!

One more update for the weekend...Here are the new cart handles I ordered online (bicycle handles).

And the other is the foot piece...still waiting on the wheels to arrive.

Here is a quick update now that I have had an extended weekend. I finished painting the kettle and the rotisserie motor and motor mount. My only concern is I am using 2 washers and one nut that may be galvanized. I have read both sides of this debate and decided it wouldn't hurt. The two washers are holding the lid handle and he one nut is attached to the bolt on the bottom damper.

Here is the motor disassembled and painted.

Here is the kettle with motor mount.

Motor mount assembled with paint still drying.

I went ahead and set everything up to get ready for a burnout on the inside and to assist the paint setting on the outside. I was waiting for the second wheel to come in for the cart. Unfortuneately they sent me the wrong d@mn wheel. So I decided to go with one new wheel on one side an one original on the other. Very frustrating but don't want to spend anymore money on another wheel.

This is the old charcoal grate. I am considering getting two new Weber cooking grates for it.

Here is the charcoal chimney ready to light.

Here is a peak through the top vent of the burning embers.

COMPLETED! I added the end tables I ordered from Baker's Cook N Kettle, sprayed the inside with Pam and did another light. Tonight I will go with something simple and grill some Mountain View hot links and mild links.

In this pic you see a silver piece of metal on the side of the rotissarie ring. This was a little gadget the previous owner created to cover/seal the whole for smoking/grilling.

For now I will use a turkey fryer thermometer in the top vent.

The only thing left is new grates but I have a spare from my smoker that will work for now. On with the first cook!
