I was wondering if it makes a difference when smoking overnight to use porcelain coated stainless steel grates or my cast iron grates in a Bayou Classic Ceramic (BGE imitator).

In the past I've only used my cast iron for steaks and grilling. Any thoughts?

Shouldn't matter for slow cooks.

How are you liking that cooker? Do you have the original or the re designed one that Lowes sells.

Thanks for the advice on the grates. I figured for slow cooking didn't matter.

Q-Dat, I love the BC Cypress. I'm not sure if I have the redesigned or not. I purchased December 2010. I haven't had to do anything to other than buy accessories. I highly recommend them....I haven't cooked on BGE though. So who knows maybe the BGE would blow my mind or something.
