We may have an opportunity for a sponsorship at a couple local competitions. One of the competitions would be the local Sams Club event.

In the rules for Sams it states.. "Due to existing sponsorships and partnerships for the Sam's Club National BBQ Tour, Sam's Club and KCBS reserve the right to have any team sponsorship signage removed or covered up during the contest."

Has anyone ran into any issues with this. Or have you been told to take down a simple "sponsored by" banner?

We didn't put ours up just in case. I didn't want to take any chances.

There was at least one team in Ft. Worth last year who were asked to cover their sponsorship signage on their trailer. You would be better off asking this question, with specifics, to MMA in Nashville use email address of Troy Black who is the one that will enforce any signage questions.

They don't want anything that competes with anything Sam's or other tour sponsors.

We had our sponsor's banner up without any problems, but Troy did say anyone with a royal oak banner had to take it down.

Generally, if you are sponsored by Bob's Deli from down the street, they don't care, but if it's a national brand it will most likely be a problem. They have a lot of other sponsors besides Sam's Club.

If your sponsor is paying you to attend that specific event, it's a bad idea, because you never know whether it will be an issue or not until you get there.

I cooked Indianapolis last year and the team directly across from us has a huge ez-up covered in their sponsors logos, etc and then were forced to turn their roof inside out and put it up that way.

I'd say go with your normal setup but have a plan in place to comply with any requests to remove your sponsors signage.

I'd also put it in writing in your sponsors agreement that you will always make a best effort to display their signage but reserve the ability to remove it at the request of a contest organizer. I'd also explain that even if a particular comp disallows your sponsor's signage, it is still a beneficial relationship because your participation in big comps leads to more popularity and traffic to your website where you have your sponsor's info. Something along those lines.

We had to cover a sponsor EZ-UP a couple years ago in Pittsburgh. If your sponsor is a direct competitor of one of the Sam's Tour sponsors, you will be asked to cover it up or take it down.

I know the local store manager at Madison WI last year confiscated my Kirkland Aluminum Foil and gave me a different one to use. Didn't seem to be as serious as I've heard they were in the past.

I had to take down our "sponsor" banner last year. Troy felt that "Lucifer's Escorts" was not the family appropriate matter that Sam's wanted.

The removal request came about from a serious question as to how the heck did we get a crematorium as a BBQ sponsor! I kid you not.

Our entire sponsor banner is done as a joke.

You sign is very up front, yet refined in a manner like a finely aged wine only to be appreciated by true connoisseurs of it's vintage. They clearly didn't know what they were missing :becky:.

BUT that is why you put out the effort. So that it is only funny to those who get it.

I am seriously laughing too hard right now. Some people are so obtuse.

SWEENEY TODD!
"He shaved the faces of gentlemen
who neverthereafter were heard from again"
"He trod the path that few have trod,
did Sweeney Todd"
"The Demon Barber of Fleet.......Street"

This is just one of the many reasons we do not compete at SAMs in KC:thumb:
There are so many other events that want us to compete at their event:boxing:
Good luck:drama:
