For butts and briskets? No.

For ribs? I have great results with the $150 Chargriller offset you can get at Lowes or Home Depot. I can fit more ribs than a WSM and they are easier to work with for flipping and saucing. Our ribs were Top 10 at every comp we did last year including a 3rd at Oink where beat a couple of TLC's Pitmasters. We beat out a lot of pricier smokers.

The only mod I made was to flip over the charcoal pan in the main grill body to create a tuning plate.

Agreed, with all this good advice I am going to buy the WSM and build the the Big Ugly. My wife will be so happy to see that brought out when our guest are over to eat!:heh: The men will love it and the women will hate it!
