OBR & Weber Thanksgiving Day of Giving

Operation BBQ Relief teamed up with Weber to feed some needy families in Chicago.

OBR & a whole lot of Weber volunteers showed up at Weber HQ in Palatine IL on a brisk, chilly day. OBR sent in a trailer with three Ole Hickory smokers from Memphis.

18* out this morning and the propane regulators were freezing up. Weber brought out some heaters to try to thaw them out.

After trying to get them fired up for a while, we managed to get one of them going, the other two we went old school and loaded them up with lump.

Loaded up 40 cases of turkey breasts (1600 lbs.) Weber crew were rubbing them up, another crew would bring them out and a third crew loaded the smokers.

Gotta get the little ones involved too. Should have seen the smile on her face.

Cooked up a bunch of veg. Loaded the cambro's into the truck. Ended up with two dumpsters full of empty #10 cans.

Ready to come off the smokers. And ya gotta sample one to make sure it's good enough to distribute. Juicy good stuff! We cook some good que.

Fun, exhausting day, back tomorrow for part two. The delay in getting the smokers going delayed getting the turkey sliced. Can't slice hot turkey. So tomorrow is getting the turkey sliced and then pan up I believe 1000 pans of meals.

Looked like a boat load of food and you had to overcome some obstacles to get it plated up.

Old school wood saved the day, but it must have been panic mode finding a wood supply on such short notice.

Day two at the training kitchen at Weber HQ.

Couldn't figure out how to get one of those Webers to come home with me.

Lots o turkey to slice up. This is only a small portion of it.

Sunny Moody from Food Network BBQ Brawl Season Three stopped by to help out.

Marrilac House came out with a bunch of their volunteers to help the Weber & OBR volunteers.

All the Marrilac House volunteers got a whole turkey breast to take home as well.

Truck loaded up with 1000 pans of turkey, green beans & yams. And a whole bunch of Martin potato buns.

Pan number 1000! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Tomorrow the meals get distributed to the needy at Marillac House in Chicago. I won't be able to make that one, back to the real job.
