This go's both ways, to organizer please do not state in your advertising to come out and tast champoion bbq. This missleads the public into thinking the teams are feeding them

Yeahhhh, no. I don't hand out libations to people I don't know. Volunteers fueled by beer on golf carts or Gators is a really bad idea.

Well what about the guy that has been lugging away all the bags full of trash and would like to have a frosty one before he heads home? Or the electrician that made sure the breakers didn't trip during the downpour in the middle of the night?

Number 7 doesn't say "get strangers operating machinery intoxicated". Offering a volunteer food drink or a beer certainly does not make for "volunteers fueled by beer"

During the contest volunteers really shouldn't be drinking adult beverages & if I were an organizer I'd be less than pleased if my volunteers who are supposed to be helping return the event site to normal were in cook sites sucking down beers. I've just made it a policy that we don't distribute alcohol unless the person is known to us. If some 20 year old volunteer mooches beers from 10 teams gets hammered, then gets hurt or hurts someone then everyone is in for a world of crap. Food & water is different and we've never turned away a request for water or a hungry volunteer.

I agree! Water is a good thing. You don't want to be responsible for somebody not being of age, or not being able to control him/herself, etc...

I have only been a part of 2 comps thus far, but the one thing I would like to add is, if you are a veteran team, don't get pissy when a newbie asks a question. We are all competitors in this, but if a team forgets something and asks if you have one to borrow, don't act like you are better. It ruins the experience. I will gladly help out another team if they need it. It's part of the fun.

Please add, keep your children tethered or otherwise contained so they do continually run through competitors cooksite. Yesterday one of my neighbor's visitors nearly ran into our WSM while being chased by another child.

In fairness, they were directed to to take that route and were escorted by a volunteer in a golf cart.


That being said, don't put the organizers staff in a position to make bad decisons by trying to leave during the awards ceremony and finding out that your exit ailse is blocked by other teams packing up.
