Dang! I was hoping to meet her!

Coz will be there being Fords clean up bitch.Poor bastridge cant afford too many comps .I would like to compete a little more but its just the way it is.

I also think the success of a contest has a lot to do with a good organizer, not the sanctioning body.

I know everybody in the NE is pissed at KCBS right now and I know people don't think what KCBS offers is worth the money but I disagree completely.

I've watched it grow for many years and while I disagree with much of what KCBS does these days I would never even consider having a contest without using them.

Doc, I hear you. And my post was not just motivated by the recent events between KCBS and NEBS, but out of the hope for the growth of other sanctioning organizations-- not to KCBS' detriment, but to the better for cooks w/ more diverse contest styles.

I understand the benefits of having sanctioning from KCBS-- rules, reps, judges, consitency, less chance of funny business, etc....and respect all of that, even if the (p.r.) behavior of the organization as it grows becomes more unpalatable.

A greater variety of contest styles (grilling, backyarder, etc...) keeps the sport within reach of both 'career' competitiors and weekend warriors that just want to drink and hang out. I look forward to people nurturing both without either being a rip-off or a fix, just more well run events for the growth of BBQ.....without infringing on intellectual properties.....

Hey folks; please give us a chance. We run a non-san. event under the watchfull eyes of the National BBQ Festival. We run the Smokin Eagles International BBQ Festival in Wheatfield NY. We are a qualifier for the BIG show in Douglas GA. The proud home of the National Barbecue News, Publisher Kell Phelps, from the famed Phelps Family. Now you all know how much the Phelps have helped moved BBQ in the future, with the can do attitude. So please don't judge an event by the sanctioning body. Because we don't have one either. Please judge us on our own merits. It was said "that this event was one of the best, if not the best we have ever been at" by the BBQ news staff writer the Honorable Rocky Danner. Thank You, again Rocky. So please come enjoy our event, We got big plans for this year.

Thank You for reading

I would go to a non state champ contest. I am doing it at Green Lane. I have only done well at one contest- New Holland last year. I have not figured out how I did that. I am there to have fun with my team and the other teams there. I figure the only way a Comp can become a State Comp is if there are enough teams. Someone has to do it. Right now if I made it to the Jack or the Royal it would be great and error with someones taste buds

We did Louisa last year also. It was licenced by the KCBS and they also had help from the Mid Atlantic BBQ. Bill and his crew did a outstanding job with it and this year has turned it into a sactioned event. I probably would have gone back even if it wasn't.

Roy:biggrin:

I will cook any contest with any categories ran by anyone. All comps are what you make of them. Judging means nothing if you can cook good food. Give me a trophy, a good day of drinking and decent friends along for the day. Thats all I need.
