Hello everyone, first thanks for all the good advice and reading material, it really guided my decision to buy a quality off-set smoker. I generally do a lot of research before making a substantial purchase and I am very glad that I did in this case as I was almost about to drop good money on the Old Country brand Wrangler smoker, but after much inspection their build quality and QA was not up to my standards. So I began my quest on CL and after about four weeks of looking I almost decided to just have one custom built by a reputable welder, then I came across a home built gem at a good price (about $200 more than the wrangler though).
Anyway, long story short, I drove out to see the pit and was amazed at the design and build quality of this smoker. It's 1/4" thick steel, firebox is large, the welds are some of the best I've seen (and I know a thing or two about weld/ing. It weighs about 450 lbs, has a controllable flue bw the firebox and cook chamber, all around great pit and I would say better than many of the top names out there. And I would brag on this even if I didn't purchase it.
Well, I am hooked now and ready to begin my long journey into great QUE and learning each day. Probably going to start off easy with a chicken then some pork (butt or loin) and really want to try to cool smoke some cheese and nuts for the holidays.
Will have to post pics later when I can get to my computer or figure out if I can insert from my iPhone to the forum directly?
Thanks.
