Great? No. But worth trying out, yes. Some people will tell you hill country or blue smoke. They are not bad but the best is probably dinosaur just inside harlem. No its not like the Harlem you hear about in the movies. they are usually busy but have good pulled pork and ribs.
Stay away for the Neeley's restaurant. Its terrible.
If you can get to brooklyn, I hear Fette Sau is amazing.
I ate at Fette Sau a month ago or so. I thought it was fantastic. Had brisket and some goat, both were wonderful. Neat atmosphere as well. I'd go back for sure.
Brother PigTrip(Gary) has an excellent blog on BBQ joints in the northeast. Here is his list for NYC with links to his educated reviews of many of them.
I'll 2nd Dinosaur. Been to the ones in ROC and SYR and both were great. Also, I would check out Brisket Town (Brooklyn). I haven't been there, but the owner trained under Aaron Franklin and at Mueller's in Central TX. His Twitter is @danieldelaney.
Delaney BBQ in Brooklyn's kicking up a fuss. The owner came out to Austin and bought Aaron Franklin's smoker to haul back to NYC, and a Uhaul filled with Texas post oak. He's getting some good reviews. I interviewed him here http://chowpapi.com/wordpress/wordp...ey-of-brisketlab-sits-down-with-rl-reeves-jr/ seems like a genuine man.
