Am also a judge but not yet with KCBS , just now geting ready to compete , work in progress of a double barrel 55 gallon drum smoker with side fire box. Going to start simple and work my way up!!
 
I judged Grill Kings and The New England Championships at Harpoon this summer. Great learning experiences. It really helped with our first comp. at the Hudson Valley Rib Festival. It accelerated the learning curve. Can't wait to judge and cook next year. I enjoy both. Judging is less work and stimulates creativity, but the competition experience just can't be beat. Made alot of new friends doing both. I'm hooked.
