Griddle - How Hot?

Curious as to the answers..also curious how accurate those things are?

Anyway one griddle i looked at suggested 350* temps so my guess would be 350-500*, otherwise the food would burn?

If the griddle is at all polished/shiny/reflective, the infrared thermometer will reflect off of it & give an inaccurate reading.

Myself... I just sprinkle a little water on mine & watch the dance.

When I cooked my griddle burgers over charcoal, my infrared read 410 on one end and 350 on the other. The burgers cooked at the 410 end had a better crust. They cooked for maybe 2:30 a side and the actual meat was pretty cold before I put on the griddle.

Crank it all the way up to sear (e.g. - burgers), fairly low for eggs, everything else in the upper-middle position on the knobs. Seems to work for me so far. No clue on temps. I have an infrared temp device, but it doesn't seem to give consistent/accurate readings.
