Entry Fees

My contests are sanctioned KCBS or IBCA
In 2008 they will run $125 to $225
Its is prize money based. $125 is a $2500 contest
We always do Peoples Choice where the teams can sell
lots of BBQ and end up making money

That is what I like about Thoms contests. Peoples choice is a lot of fun.

I have thought of entering a tiny little local comp. It has a $100 entry fee, plus the meat and other expense. No sanctioning. GC prize is a $50 gift cert. to a local restaurant. Other "winners" get cheap trophy. I think about 10 teams competed last year, their first year to have the comp.

Entry seems high to me.

My ? is.... is this high or about right? What to the bigger/sanctioned comps cost?

Maybe I'll see about volunteering as a judge instead of cooking. Thoughts on that?

Thanks

Do you think these contests cost nothing to run. At ten teams thats $1000. Thats really not much to run a contest with. Do you do these contests to have fun or to make money? Normal sanctioned contests cost alot more than $1000 to run. I can tell you that and most entry fees are alot more than $100 bucks.

Good points, all...

I think the space is donated and the publicity is word of mouth. My guess is the cost to run the event is fairly low. Acutally I wouldn't expect to win, kinda the casino mindset (the money is already gone before in get there, might as well have some fun).

But since I have not been in a comp. it's nice to now how the fees stack up to others. Will check about the charity and about judging. You guys will be the first to know (bragging rights) if I do anything.

Thanks
