I've had great results mixing it w/ oak & hickory. I've even done a brisket using just cherry and I loved it. Very mild smoke flavor which I enjoy.
As my friend KCQuer used to say, "Any wood is good for smoking as long as it is cherry!" (Miss ya, Bro!)
Truer words have never been spoken! :clap2:

AMEN.
You know 'E' is smiling everytime we talk about cherry wood.
BTW its best when you cut em in wheels.
cherry provides a wonderful deep redish color to my cooks.
Were these fruit trees or wild cherry?
ok, i have now been told that it's a "false cherry." Am I still good, or should I only cook with this when my brother and his wife come over and I want to thank them for their generosity?!
Should be still good! Fire up some and see what type of smell you get. Some cherry trees or "false cherry" trees have some toxicity if the leaves or other parts are eaten. However, there is no negative impact when smoking.
You can always post some pics and let us look at your wood (cherry)!
