Police Targeting Trailer Theft
Crackdown Occurred Monday On Both Sides Of State Line

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Law enforcement officials on both sides of the state line conducted commercial vehicle safety inspections Monday looking for stolen trailers and items.

Officers stopped vehicles hauling trailers, both big and small, KMBC's Kerri Stowell reported. Authorities were searching for stolen trailers and items.

"It's a very bad in the metro area right now, especially the zero-turn lawn mowers," said Sgt. Arnold Wilson of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. "It's been a really busy year for stealing zero-turn lawn mowers."

Wilson said the sheriff's office wants victims to know that authorities are trying to find stolen items and get them back to their rightful owners.

The Heavy Equipment Theft Task Force stopped 60 trucks Monday. Several had safety violations that meant the trucks have been taken off the road until repairs can be made. No stolen trailers or equipment was found.
