With items you probably already have. Raised in a grilling, frying, oven, pressure cooker environment void of smoked meats, regardless our food had great taste.
Louis Charles Henley’s All Purpose Rub mimics what we had to work with. We didn’t blend it and shake rather we added it one at a time. Used this combination of ingredients on everything except cold cereal. I remember we always had cumin for chili too.

Louis Charles Henley’s All Purpose Rub
1/4 Cup Lawry’s Seasoning Salt
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon chili powder

This is really good on fried potatoes & onions,okra, squash etc
