I got a beercan turkey roaster to stand the bird up; it works great for cooking whole and allows the heat to flow into the center of the bird as well as around the outside.
Supposedly a 24oz beercan will also stand a turkey up and the bubbling juices from whatever is in the car will help with the cooking process.
That is a good idea and I considered it for this cook but I was nervous that it would speed up the cooking time on the breast and I was trying to slow it down. I will smoke a smaller bird next time and use this method with the cone like thing from my fryer.
