Going Green, Hudson Valley Ribfest

OK now everyone has had their 2 cents now I want mine.

Here is the deal, Green is great but here is what you guys don't get.....
The paper is not the only issue. There are no copy machines available and we are not talking about 50 sheets, we did print the individual sheets for each team, it is another 300 + sheets we would need to print, and collate. We barely finished in time for the awards as it was. The printing on printers would take another 1-2 hours. Are you saying you would rather wait until 6 for the awards?

Not trying to be smart but in the past we used the copier at the fairgrounds and they felt that much printing was putting too much wear and tare on their equipment. It also takes 1 ink cartridge to print that many copies. Maybe this will help you understand.

Now if we could get someone this wifi on site to email to everyone on the spot they could spend the time and you would have it after awards or maybe someone would donate a copier to print and collate the results.

Thanks everyone. I was standing next to Phil when he got called for RGC... he was surprised! Great to cook next to Transformer and Q-Less. Lack of sleep and bourbon caught up on us during our break-down and sorry to Bernie for dumping about 5-gallons of grease water into his site.

So quit holding out on me and Steve... What did you do to your chicken... Don't be leaving us in the dust now!!!

I'm not sure the recipe is reproducible. I dumped almost the whole rack of chicken (SLED mod) into the water pan (dry) of my backwoods. Was able to re-assemble about 8 good pieces.

Seriously, I have done one thing that has helped a bit with my chicken scores this year.... turned up the temp on my cooker.... a lot.

This is how I learned of our RGC....my back had been killing me all weekend. So I was getting up after the four groups, we had one call, I knew the odds were that one of the teams with multiple calls would get the GC and RGC. Si I started slowly walking back and phil was walking over in another direction. I had some friends there and was saying good by to them and then explained how sometimes, a team may not get any walks but still win as their consitentcy was better than a shot here and there. So I said my goodbye's and walked about another 100 painful yards when I heard "...BBQ Brethren!" Needless to say I was stunned, and in so much discomfort I could'nt walk fast enough to get into the photo....so, no me in the win, but in this case a photo doesn't prove anything! Scott

I emailed Stephanie and told her how important those scores are to us. I told her if she ever competed she would understand better. I also didn't like that they only called the winner for the apple category up. I worked my ass off for that category and to come in 3rd and not get to go up, and at least get a hand shake or certificate?? beside those two problems everything else was great!

the entire 60 seconds is a blur.. I was sitting with chris hoping he got the GC which may put us as an auto in the Jack. So him and i are sitting their yappin and we shut up just enuf to listen to GC/RGC.

Last thing in my peabrain is that we were in the running with just one call. Now here i am PRAYING that Chris doesn't get the RGC call and I'm guessing on Lakeside or lo-n-slo. So we wait..

and they call BBQ-Brethren

.. What I do remember is my eyes bugged out of my head and chris is laughing going thats YOU!! ..I think I may have been doing some yellin... just a little..

had a great time this weekend.. i think it was one of the most fun ones this season..no problems, good spot, great weather, and mades lots of rounds too. usually glad the season is winding now, but for some reason im looking forward to the next one. :wink:



ya know what i learned..

When ya get a bunch of top 5 or whatever calls and you see your in the running for GC/RGC, its no surprise, just apprehension, prayers and crossed fingers.


but when it happens out of the blue with one call or no calls.. Holy chit.. THATS A SURPRISE!!! WHAT A FARKIN RUSH.

Our beloved Linda Mullane has a bit of a playful/mean streak in her.

heres what she did...


Afte telling me the WRONG TIME for the cooks meeting(yeah yeah linda, excuses excuses.. she says she meant the NEBS cook meeting, not KCBS).. whatever..


No one form our team showed up at the KCBS cooks meeting to get the boxes. So she gave them to another one of The Brethren and told them to wait until I came to get them.

So when i went to her for the boxes, she says she gave them to another team to hold for me and I have to go get them. They also had the apples for the apples category which is part of the ribfest tradition.

Ok. "so what team" I asked.

Her response...... "Im not telling you." :twisted: YOU have to go ask everyone.

WTF!! :icon_pissed I gotta do WHAT???..


Yup.. as my punishment for not going to the cooks meeting, which BTW, I always forget to do.. she made me walk from team to team... site to site..

It started out funny...

then it turned into...

YO! YOU GOT MY FARKING BOXES!


All the time Linda is watching me bounce from tent to tent and shes grinning.... and the teams are laughing their butts off when I tell them I'm being punished and they are part of my timeout.

Hot dog truck offered me their nail gun to shoot into Lindas tires.


Then... thank you Big Barry Q.. Trip one....i asked some folks at his tent and they told me no.. but i knew they werent team.. so trip 2 back there I saw trish(Barrys wife), and she had no idea what i was talking about, same thing at trip 3...

Linda saw me go back there 3 times and realized somethings wrong.. THEY had my stuff.. so she felt guilty and went back and got the boxes for me.. delivered them herself....WHEN I WASNT LOOKING.. so I kept going from team to team being abused.. One team offered me their own boxes, but i wasnt allowed to change the numbers. ha ha very funny.. Everyones a comedian.

After the first lap, Im ready to give up.. i told murry(the other rep) that I am turning my stuff in in half pans, and i dont want to hear any grief.

I get back to my camp.... and the boxes are sitting on the table.. YAkfishinfool decides to pull my chain even more and tell me...'those boxes"?? They been sitting here for an hour. Fark.. Well.. at least I got to wander arond and say hi to alot of folks.



The moral of the story..,

Beware.. Linda Mullanes got an evil mind. :redface:

Nice event, All of our neighbors were helpful with advice as we still try to figure stuff out, and everyone was fun as usual.

And Chris, I hope you got through town with the directions, good thing I gave them to you before the "mistake", huh? :mrgreen:

unfortunately I think it took the wind out of our sails so bad that we just wanted the whole thing to be over...

We don't see 2 very often and to not even get to walk was a little disappointing. So yes, you can be RGC and get $20 and two tiny plastic trophies...

Congrats to Chris and Phil and all that did well in BBQ...hope to see everyone in Westport but glad its not next weekend!!
