L&P UK version uses malt vinegar and spirit vinegar. U.S. version uses distilled white vinegar. Canadian version uses malt vinegar. I've never tasted the UK and Canadian versions, but malt vinegar doesn't taste the same as distilled white.

Multi-national companies like Heinz, may have a slightly different flavor profile for the same product depending on what country you're from. Even the U.S. and Canadian versions of Ketchup taste different. The Canadian version is supposedly sweeter but less spicy.

7 pages....yes, pretty amazing.....I waited awhile before reading thru..........

On the left, dollar store brand, not half bad if the sauce or injection is going to cook for a long time.....

Middle, yes, L & P, for a lot of things & anything that's much closer to the finish, or like some of our friends from around the world say about use as a condiment (or...as some of our most wacky friends have said, straight guzzling)

And then there's this, on the right, Radich's Bord-O-Lay sauce.....a Woosty-like condiment / sauce, but so much more rich & complex.....the single best beef marinade I've found in 30 years of cookin' stuff up, but will go a lot of different directions.......semi-localized to the west coast, but available some places as far as Texas & Kentucky....

Pricey to ship one, but a case is a great deal.....not affiliated, just that it's a tremendous liquid.......
I've sent samples to several high-end chefs & food people & they always like it, never fails........

I have taste tested Lea & Perrin's side by side with French's. I can't really pick up on much of a difference, but I don't have the most refined palate. I know there are some brands that don't contain anchovies so that would most likely cause a big difference.

Thoughts?

I only use Lea & Perrins.

L&P for me. The truth is that it may taste just like the other brands, but that doesn't matter. Having the paper covered bottle makes me feel good about my purchase.

I buy/use only L&P but I understand that there is another excellent brand - S&P never saw it so I've not tried it but I will if I can :icon_bigsmil

Bumping this thread from the dead.

Reason: Someone in another thread said to try Bear & Burton's W sauce couple years ago. Bought a 2-pack on Amazon. Tried and thought it sucked worse than both L&P and French's. Threw the rest of the bottle out.

Flash forward: Found the 2nd unopened bottle of W sauce last night. Gave it to a coworker this morning. Know he's into grilling/smoking and waiting to hear his opinion.

Wizards rocks!

I absolutely like L&P ...had some wal mart brand and it was horrible IMO....also tried B&B which is supposed to be the new end all but I guess I’m just a dinosaur, too many wonderful memories of Papa Rock putting L&P with the paper wrap on steak growing up.....to each his own and that’s what makes life great.....I will have to say there is something called “Hoover” sauce which was developed in the Mississippi Delta, while it’s not regular Worchester sauce, it has an oriental whang to it that on some pork is wonderful.....JMHO

I didn't know there were other brands.

Farking wannabe's.

Next thing you know some copycats are going to try and muscle in on Heinz Ketchup and Hellman's Mayonnaise.

Bigs, where the hell you been? I feared you were absconded with by the drunken lesbian!

I'm so embarrassed, one of these days I will start looking at post dates,

Another good wash-your-sister sauce is Colonel Pabst, also on the expensive side and hard to find.

Heard about W Sauce a several years back, tried it, not a fan. Over priced and too thick in my opinion. More of a worchester flavored steak sauce.

My experience with W Sauce, as well. Used it in a marinade for jerky. Too strong or I used too much.

I did later use it as a really light brush on SCA style steaks. Better.

I tried French's a few years back when I was trying to support them. Heinz had shuttered it's ketchup plant in Leamington, Ontario and laid everyone off, and all the local tomato growers were going to be farked. French's stepped up and bought the plant and hired them all back and got into the ketchup business. It was a pretty popular move and I think French's almost overtook Heinz in sales for a while here in Canada. It was around then that I saw a French's version on the "werstersher' shelf and was happy to give it a try. Not nearly the same as L&P to me and lacked 'character' for loss of a better word. So it's back to L&P here. Not religiously, but usually. Sometimes I'll cheap out and get the Walmart house brand or something, and then get scolded by my wife.

I hate any other brand but L&P and it must be the glass bottle wrapped in paper version. I can absolutely taste the difference. Its similar to the difference between LKK regular oyster sauce and LKK premium oyster sauce. If you know, you know.
