I discovered over the weekend that a local BBQ shop is now stocking the B&B charcoal and briquettes. Surprised to see this available in Belgium. I ordered some of the briquettes to try and after reading the blurb on the site I´m confused. It sounds to me like they are suggesting their oak briquettes give of sufficient smoke taste for competition use. Is this correct? Any thoughts on this? I´m used to Weber briquettes.

I like the lump but the B&B charcoal, in particular the competition briquettes in the orange bag, have significantly decreased in quality over the past year. The briquettes are poorly molded yielding broken and misshaped coals that don’t burn evenly and make it hard to maintain a snake or fuse burn. And the odor has changed too, and for the worse. I’m using up what I have and moving on!

And I agree with the others that the briquettes do not provide much of a smoke profile, I add wood chunks for that.

Interesting, I haven't used them in a while but was planning on ordering some. Might just stick with their lump.

Duraflame bought B&B last year about this time.
Quality started to decline immediately.

The old version had a nice smoky smell when lighting. But I never found too much of that smoky om the food it cooked.

The new version is way over priced for the quality. What a shame.

I've used the B&B lump, briquettes, and char logs. I still buy the char logs if they are on sale or I can get them cheap, but don't really seek out the lump or briquettes. Lazzari Oak lump can be had in California at a decent price in most places. One thing to note is the B&B stuff that is mainly oak or an oak blend, I get some mesquite aromas in there. A little stinky at lighting but subsides. I still get the RO All Natural (brown bag) cheaper and stocked up on the Kingsford Professional over the past few weeks. Give it a go and see what you think before buying a bunch.

Thanks for all the comments and thoughts. I bought 2 bags of the briquettes, came in yesterday and had a quick look in 1 of them. They looked good. I have an insulated cabinet smoker on the way for which I want to try these. Will see how they compare to the Weber briquettes I´m used to.

I used to use GFS briquettes but changed to B&B when I got my Humphrey's and I like them. I have noticed a few 1/2 briqs occasionally but nothing I haven't seen with other brands. I also like that they're bigger than most other like @BBQ Freak mentioned.

I bought one bag of B&B Oak Briquettes and used them in my Limo Jr. I really liked them, but haven't been able to find them since. Everyone has the lump, no one has the briquettes. I guess I'll stick to Gordon's Choice. I don't really mind Kingsford BB, but both of those others made significantly less ash.

If you have a Ace Hardware they have them or you can have them shipped to your store .
