I'm a huge fan of ABT's. My family and neighbors are also.

That said, it is one of those deals where if it ain't broke don't fix it, but alas, I want to experiment.

What variations of the typical jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese and ranch dressing seasoning wrapped in bacon have you all tried and felt that it resulted in something even more amazing than the original?

Just to get things started: I've tried sprinkling some rubs on mine, threw some bacon bits in the stuffing mixture, wrapped in sausage instead of bacon, but so far I think the original stands apart.

Thoughts?

I have tried a few minor variations. I generally sprinkle some rub on. Sometimes I mix some rub in with the cream cheese. I have also mixed in diced habanero pepper into the cream cheese.

1. Agree, bacon is necessary. Was there a question?
2. They take 40 minutes or so, so MUSHROOMS work in the mix.
3. Of course cooked brisky or Pulled Pork go in there.
4. Hard, smelly cheese bits.
5. Small slices of chicken.
6. I squirt a little Sweet Baby Ray's in before the bacon wrap.
Then sprinkle with rub.
When you let them go long enough, they are not spicy anymore.

Ive done the regular, some with the flavored savory cream cheeses, some with pimento cheese, some with a strip of smoked chicken and a piece of smoke Gouda. All of course wrapped in bacon and sprinkled with whatever rub I was wanting to experiment with.

We have had great reception when some jelly has been mixed in with the cream cheese prior to filling.

Food processor chopped Smokey Links
Rendered and well drained chorizo
Leftover pulled pork
Shredded cheddar
Crab meat
Chopped grilled shrimp

I like to use pablano halves for ABTs. It's a larger serving and less heat for my wife. I'm always thinking of new things to stuff into them. :-D

My family's favorite is using the mixture I make for deep fried sauerkraut balls, sans the sauerkraut.

It's a mixture of cooked pork sausage, cream cheese, yellow mustard, granulated garlic and chopped onions.

I top them with rub and then sharp cheddar before wrapping with thick cut bacon

try them with sweet peppers (half's),
mix some of your rub in with the cream cheese along with some cheddar and jelly (or applesauce) drizzle before bacon wrap.
not ABT's but darn good,

Now this sounds interesting! please expound on jelly selection! A little sweet to complement the savory could be next level.

That sounds really good. Might have to experiment with that. Is there a flavor that seems to work better than others?

My wife is particularly fond of cherry jelly. She claims it removes more of the "heat" from the peppers, and everyone does seem to really like it.

For cheese I prefer to use chopped smoked.string cheese. I then mix various dried fruits with the cheese. Everyone loves when I use chopped dried cherries, but my favorite was chopped figs. Dried apricots and cranberries are really good too.
Always jalapeños and always wrapped in bacon.

I've never actually used cream cheese. I always stuff with either cheddar or colby jack, or even mozzarella. Sometimes I sprinkle on some Habanero Death Dust too.

I'll have to try the cream cheese with shrimp or crab or even fruit, it sounds good.

I love the idea of a turd Rangoon.......gonna have to put that on the bucket list! :thumb:

My normal go-to for ABT's is Cream cheese with some brown sugar and rub mixed in, shredded sharp cheddar mixed in until it tastes good. Then put that on or in the pepper, add a little smokie on it and wrap in bacon. I got a ABT rack last year that came with a coring tool that works well. So now I will cut the stem end off, use the tool, and fill with the cream cheese part way and add about a 1/2 of the little smokie, then wrap in bacon. They rock and are requested at super bowl time!
