Pellet Brand Suggestions

Recently got a Rec Tec and would like to know if other Pellet users have a favorite brand and why. I'm almost out of the bag I got with the smoker and just curious if there are other brands that I might want to try. Thanks!

Lumberjack 100% Hickory or OHC (Oak Hickory Cherry) Blend. They give the most smoke flavor of all the pellets I've used.

I think I found somewhere close that carries them! Have you used the rec tec or treager pellets are they comparable? they give a good smoke, what pellet smoker do you use.

Perfect mix, I've seen those online. I was wondering how those were. looks like I need to just start trying some. Do any burn hotter than others. I understand the rec tec burn hotter than other brands so I slowed my feed down to manage heat.

I found Perfect mix on amazon for 32.05 for a 40lbs bag, that's .80 cents a pound! seems pretty good if their nice pellets.

BBQers Delight are good, too.

Stay away from Traeger pellets. They use oils instead of flavor wood for quite a few of their varieties.

Where in TX are you? cookinpellets has 3 dealers in TX, Austin, Dallas & Houston. If you can find them locally, they'll be a lot cheaper. I got them for $25/bag. I've been using Lumberjack pellets recently, also available locally for me. I've liked the MHC blend and the 100% Cherry. Just opened a bag of OHC and also have some 100% pecan to try.

Personally I use perfect mix and like it a lot. I will be trying Lumberjack soon though.

Lumberjack is excellent. I find the 100% Hickory gives an extra bite to the smoke flavor. MHC and OHC I find similar but a smoother flavor. 100% Cherry is milder and sweeter still. If you do a group buy from bbqpelletsonline you will be under $0.50/lb. I get mine locally for $0.50/lb. Read about lumberjack at bbqlumberjack.com.

Stay away from Traeger at least from what I've heard on other sites. Lumberjack,Cooking pellets and BBQ delight are all trusted brands...

There's a cookin pellets dealer in Woodward OK. Picked up a bunch of 20lb bags of Lumberjack for $12 each on sale from my local source about a month ago.

Also you can get a few varieties of Louisiana Grills pellets online at Ace with free shipping to your local store for $32. Never tried them. I believe they are 60% Maple and 40% flavor wood.

Nice, thanks guys! looks like I'm going to order some Perfect mix first. Then work on finding Lumberjacks for a good price or maybe I can find some local Pellet guys for a group buy,

I've done a couple cooks with the Perfect Mix pellets... nice smoke, great flavor.
