Or look at Craigslist daily. This pit was for sale in San Diego for $1500. I mentioned it to an acquaintance of mine in San Francisco and he ended up buying it. It probably cost nearly $1500 just to ship it from Houston to San Diego when it was new.

@ RangerJ, I found a little more room in the budget to change my order from a 20 x 30 to a 20 x 36. Not too much bigger but I guess every little bit of cooking space can make a difference.:-D

I bought the exact same smoker this summer off of a brethren in Atlanta. Spent a few hours cleaning rust and it is a machine. Love it. I'm surprised more pitmakers don't use the direct grill firebox. It's a great idea for a patio cooker.

Klose makes a great product, and they're built to last. I also use my firebox grill grates fairly often.

How much meat can you fit on the firebox grill? If you wanted to grill burgers, could the grill hold at least 4 or 5 patties at a time?

The firebox on my Klose is 18x18, so the cooking area on top is closer to 16x16. I think you could easily get 4 or 5 regular size patties on there. The log grate in the firebox can also be raised higher to get the coals closer to the cooking grate.
