Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what are the half-moons above the thermometer ports? Is that a rain/sun shield?

Anyone running the 2.5” stems? Would be nice if they would be reasonably accurate.

It's a trade off, we use so many full size pans anymore I have to have the clearance because I'm usually running a full cooker.
If I could live without the extra space it would be nice to have the accuracy of 4" stem's but we pan all the briskets and turkeys these days when they push out of the stall and I need to cram every one I can in there.

Visual of the 4" stems. They miss the pans long ways (pic 1 and 6). but hit the pans and don't let the doors close if 2 are placed short ways back to back (pic 2 and7). Hopefully the pics help this make sense.

pjtexas1 thanks for your detailed input. I think with opting for the non-straight back and the non-elevated and considering three shelf option, I may choose the 2.5’s like InThePitBBQ because looks like I may always have something in the way. I’m planning on that 55” width too. Looks like you have great placement options.

Yeah, that was my logic and purpose; protect them from getting clipped...that and to keep rain and snow off them when smoking out in the weather.
