Shirley build in progress

Av8er and cspence - killer pits there! Thanks for sharing and keep us posted!

Nice looking rig, familiar background lol...getting mine in about a week too! I went with 3" BQ300R Tel Tru's...4" stems in the main chamber 2.5" in the warmer... https://www.stlbbqstore.com/tel-tru-bq300r-calibratable-thermometer-4-stem/

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what are the half-moons above the thermometer ports? Is that a rain/sun shield?

Congratulations to both new builds, the wait is the hardest part.

To keep you from breaking them off or maybe the latch handles hit the thermometers.

Anyone running the 2.5” stems? Would be nice if they would be reasonably accurate.

I do, long stems will hit full size steam table pans placed front to back on the 24" cookers.

I've run enough probes on a 24/42 and a 24/70 to be satisfied with adding 25* to the door therm readings seems to be the average deviation for both sides of the main chamber and the warmer.

Thanks InThePitBBQ! I am planning to get 24” and not a straight back. Definitely worth considering.

It's a trade off, we use so many full size pans anymore I have to have the clearance because I'm usually running a full cooker.

If I could live without the extra space it would be nice to have the accuracy of 4" stem's but we pan all the briskets and turkeys these days when they push out of the stall and I need to cram every one I can in there.

Visual of the 4" stems. They miss the pans long ways (pic 1 and 6). but hit the pans and don't let the doors close if 2 are placed short ways back to back (pic 2 and7). Hopefully the pics help this make sense.

pjtexas1 thanks for your detailed input. I think with opting for the non-straight back and the non-elevated and considering three shelf option, I may choose the 2.5’s like InThePitBBQ because looks like I may always have something in the way. I’m planning on that 55” width too. Looks like you have great placement options.

Yeah, that was my logic and purpose; protect them from getting clipped...that and to keep rain and snow off them when smoking out in the weather.
