I had a chance to break in my Red Box cooker and it worked very well. I did a boneless turkey breast and naked fatty and they were very good.
I would like to point out that I know the Minion Method well. Light a few briquettes on unlit and let them spread. That's what this little cooker likes. No problem. BUT I didn't do that. I was a tad weary when I did this cook. Working 10hr days 7 days a week has me in a catatonic state. Soooo, I dumped a whole Weber chimney into the firebox. Oh man did the maple wood smell good. But then I smelled something else. Like burning rubber. I opened the firebox door and had a 4 alarm fire. Temp gauge shot up to 400F. I quickly removed the firebox and dumped it into my Weber 26. I reloaded with unlit charcoal and took 4-5 hot coals and spread them out. As you can see the paint got scorched. Miraculously the door gasket held up. I'm not worried about the inside of the door but I will get some high temp paint and touch up the outside. Anyhow, this was my sleep deprived blunder. Kinda embarrassed about it but I'm among Brethren. The food turned out great.

Mine looks worse...
Doesn't take much fuel at all to keep at temp.

Thanks, I don't feel so bad now. Still sucks though. I don't expect it to stay pretty but kinda like buying a new car and getting a scratch or dent in the first week

Well, just like a car, it's not how it looks, it's how it runs. Your smoker may look a little more used than it should, but as long as the food coming out is good, you are golden.
