Dad was over today for a family party. Mom passed away in March! Dad asked if I wanted a 6 quart pressure cooker for my arsenal.Never been opened and it brand new... Been looking to buy one for pressure canning. I have been doing water bath canning for awhile but want to do pressure canning meats ect. (Right Cowgirl?) Is it worth it or buy a bigger one?

I would take it, just because I want a pressure cooker of that size, but, it is pretty small for canning.

Like Bob said that is a small pressure cooker for canning. Also you want to check the owners book as many pressure cookers operate on pressures lower than 15psi. If yours runs less than 15psi, this will throw you off on most recipes as well as your times for canning.

You could use it for making many different meals much quicker. Pretty small for canning. I remember when I was a kid we had to leave the house when Mom and Grandma were canning. Big explosion factor in the old days. The newer ones are much safer.
