So I got bit by the bug to buy some rubs and went on a spending spree. Bought Killer Hogs The BBQ Rub, Cimmaron Doc's Sweet Rib Rub, Plowboys Yardbird Rub, R Butts R Smokin Butt Kickin Chicken, R Butts R Smokin Ozark Heat, Oakridge Dominator, Oakridge Carne Crosta, Oakridge Competition Beef and Pork, Simply Marvelous Sweet Seduction, Simply Marvelous Spicy Apple, Sweet Money BBQ Rub, Victory Lane Sweet BBQ Rub, and Lamberts Sweet Rub o Mine. Hope they turn out good.

I did the same thing last year, and I still like trying new rubs.

You chose well on your spree.....enjoy! :-D

It's time to bring out the PBC again and get her going so I can try them out.

I honestly don't think any of the rubs you bought will disappoint you.

The question which one to try first.

Pick a number between 1 and 25. Then add 100, subtract the square root of the problem, then multiply by the airspeed velocity of an anladen swallow and...

If you can't figure it out by now, then go with Oakridge. I hear it is really good.

With a multitude of rubs to try, I assume you wish to be objective in sampling the rubs.

I would suggest that you record notes as you use them, simply because you won't be able to remember the good points and the bad points of each rub. To compound the matter, each rub will taste differently on different types of meats. A rub used on ribs will taste differently on a loin or even a shoulder. Size, preparation, and texture also effects how we perceive flavor. A large butt pulled or chopped will help to dilute the overall flavors as it is mixed after pulling or chopping, whereas ribs, which are thinner in nature, will have a surface coating that will remain intact.

I think we are all anxious to see what your thought and findings are compared to our personal likes. But we are all individuals, and have different preferences in taste. Something I like may not be as well received by others, and something someone else likes, may not be well received by others as well. It will never be about which rub is the best, but merely which one captures our individual likes in flavor.

If we all had the same taste and likes in flavor, we would only need one rub on the shelves.

Keep us up to date on your journey through the multitude of flavors.

People finally got the message that another set of grill tools wouldn't be all that helpful and started buying me rubs for gifts. Hard to wade through all the new options....which is a good problem to have :-D

I did the same thing a couple months ago. I smoked a brisket last weekend and used 2 Gringos Chupacabra Brisket Magic. That stuff is awesome. Oakridge Black Ops is awesome too. Both need a little pepper added for my taste buds. So many options to choose from. Waiting for your reviews. Happy cooking!

Ha, I did that last year. Being single it takes a long time to use up all the rubs.
Last weekend i did a butt, I mixed Money, Sweet Seduction, Spicy Apple and Cherry then coated the butt. Turned out good but i don't think you could make something taste bad with any of them.
