Roll Call. Inside 30 days. Orleans Casino USA Barbecue Championship, Las Vegas, NV 5/21-5/22 2011

Are you Jowa boys going over the mountains in Denver or taking the Southern route? Having done it last year for Mesquite. I'd recommend Southern route. The mountains never end in Utah.....

I am curious about this also. We are going through KC to pick up some other teams stuff and going the southern route adds 2 hours to our trip. Are the mountains in really that bad?

Its not that they are bad. They are just constant. Honeatly, Utah is way harder than Colorado. Not necessarly hard to drive, unless you get stuck behind a slow moving vehicle and then you are stuck in tjat lane. Trust me. You will make up the 2 hours with the peddle to the metal.

Drive safe. I have a guy driving mine out, along with anoth teams trailer... they are taking the southern route.

Were planning on taking I-80 instead of going through Denver...go through Salt Lake City in route to Vegas. From what I have read that is a ok route. Its 250 miles more to go around to the south. Any opinions on that option????

I've heard there are some good mountains up around I-80, that was from a buddy that was at Jackson Hole last summer. The majority of the mountains (on I-70) are from the Colorado border to I-15 in Utah. There are still some climbs on I-15 but nothing like on I-70.

I think from me ot was a little under 2 hours longer going south. Well worth it for my buddy who is driving!!! ;)

See you there Joe.

We'll be leaving from Vegas to head to STL and weren't sure about the best route but I've been told it's better go through NM again (yuck). Don't suppose anybody come out for this event want to tow a smoker back to the Midwest for us?? We'll be happy to help with some of the gas associated with it and the liquid refresh:mrgreen:ments

just looked again Scottie, its only 100 miles more to go around the south route. Do you avoid the mountains all together that way, i dont see alot of climbs on the map. thanks for the heads up!

Angie and I are flying in just to hang out and cheer you guys on. Can't wait to see y'all again.

.....good smokin' luck! :thumb:

p.s. Mista, you bringing any Woodford?

.

The southern route is the least amount of hill climbs and could save as much as 10% on gas consumption. It is mostly flat. The hills out of denver tend to be interesting and the ones out of Salt Lake are just as good. I would usually go up thru NV to Twin Falls just to avoid the SLC area.

Have driven all of the routes multiple times on business both North South and in between. Would go OKC, NM, AZ even from Chicago. Just 2 cents worth.

There's some Makers 46 still in the comp trailer...and I'm certain there will be a bottle of Single Barrel floating around camp...be sure to stop by and say hey! :becky:

They are only gradual climbs. There is a little pass right before Albuquerque, then you are at 6500'. It's well worth it Joe. Those climbs from Denver to I-15 are a beotch. Some white knuckle driving and some good grades. Fortunately I never smoked my brakes!!

Recent e-mail from Betty Cates said all information will be sent to the competing teams by this weekend...they are waiting on logistics from the casino. I am assuming this will include a team list...but ya never know.

Talk about Vegas luck for the teams...It is 58° here right now, expected high 73°. Saturday is supposed to be 83° with a low of 66° and Sunday 81° and partly cloudy.

If we were competing it would be 117° and a new Las Vegas record for May...
