Kingsford Comp Rules

i guess it does...

Except as provided in these rules, Entrants must also use a Kingsford® Charcoal product as 75% or more of the main fuel source in any qualifying competition.

They will be asked to certify they are using Kingsford Charcoal briquets as at least 75% of the fuel source for each category during competition cooking

I guess it answers the questions for the guys who were going to finish their chicken with it to qualify.

Man that is alot of fine print... essentially to be in the big money, you have to cook more than one catagory with 75% kingsford.

To be in the smaller money, just cook one catagory...

I'd be out either way - I never used 75% kingsford in anything I did in a stick burner either :razz:

Too bad they didnt get someone other than a fuel source sponsor to put the money up... so everyone could be a player. But maybe folks will ditch thier normal methods and go to kingsford... could make for some interesting results!

But thanks to Kingsford for paving the way....

Am I confused? So If you are from or compete in any contest in AZ, CO, CT, MD, NJ, ND, TN, or VT, it looks like the winner gets $1000 automatically and doesnt have to use Kingsford? Basically if a pellet cooker comes to NJ and wins, they get $1,000, and if you are from NJ and go to anywhere (on the list), and you get GC, you win even if you dont use Kingsford. I assume its because it is not available in these states, but i don't really understand. Last year we got it in NJ and we have used it every contest since. I think this is great for BBQ. Kingsford matched our first place ribs at the Royal.

Kingsford is available in AZ, at least. My guess would be more along the lines of laws in those states prohibiting contests from requiring use or purchase of a particular product in order to win, hence the oft-seen disclaimer "No purchase necessary".

 Clear as mud. I like this:

At the conclusion of each Regional Event, 1st Place Competition Winners/Teams in the ‘overall’ category (each a “Regional Champion”) who competed in at least two (2) categories, and who used Kingsford Charcoal to comprise 75% of their fuel source during competition cooking (use of Kingsford a requirement for all except residents/participants in AZ, CO, CT, MD, NJ, ND, TN, VT), will each receive a check in the amount of one-thousand dollars ($1,000 USD). In the event no Regional Champion (other than a Regional Champion in the states of AZ, CO, CT, MD, NJ, ND, TN, or VT) has used Kingsford Charcoal to comprise at least 75% of the fuel source, then no Regional Champion Cash Prize shall be awarded.

Which brings up an interesting question: Stagecoach is TWO contests within those dates. To which will the Kingsford prize apply?

I can see this topic ending up like the pork parting topics. LOL (thanks in advance for the entertainment)

I'm just gonna throw this out there too (again, for entertainment purposes)...
in order for me (or any team near me) to even get to the closest of these contests (DC or Wildwood), it's gonna cost about a grand.
just sayin...

First I'll say I'm glad Kingsford is diving in here, and this will be a good thing. I hope it brings even more attenion and prize money to our events.

With that said, I also believe the team that wins this will not win because they cooked a bunch of the events (because no one will cook a bunch for this deal). Many of the top competitors have been eliminated by the rules (no Jambo's,no FEC's, no stick burners, etc). So cook in 3-5 of them and place and you could have $25,000 (if your cooking on a backwoods, spicewine, or WSM :))

I know of a team whose name rhymes with Luau that has the resources and cookers to legitimately do all these contests. I have heard its pretty easy to run a Jambo on charcoal, which might put somebody like Mike Davis there as well. If they do, it will be virtually impossible to catch up with them without doing at least 10 or so and doing well.

That said, there are a few dates, however, that overlap with some big-money contests. It will be interesting what some of these teams decide to do.

It would be nice for the competition if 3 - 5 will put three times as many teams in contention. That's about as many I can see us attending. Just too much traveling otherwise.

There are two KCBS and one IBCA there that weekend.
Last year there was, but this year is supposed to be only two KCBS. I don't know if anybody would be crazy enough to sign on for the mad scramble again!

*curtsies*

Which is why I'm not holding my breath for this year

I dare say Kingsford's lawyers had something to do with those rules....

looks like fun though.
