Been trying to find a cheap source of apple wood here in Georgia (I can throw a rock and hit 5 hickory trees though). I googled "apple wood atlanta" and found a thread about a "ship to store" option with Do It Best Hardware. Evidently you can order 10 pound bags of wood chunks, and as long as you have it shipped to your local store you don't have to pay any shipping. They call you when it gets there and you go pick it up. They have 10 lb bags of apple, cherry and pecan for about $8.29.

Don't know how common theses stores are since I've never actually heard of them, but there is one about 12 miles from my house so I ordered two bags. I checked the store locator and they seem to have stores all over, but dunno. Anyhoo, just thought I'd mention it. Not trying to push a vendor but that seems like a decent deal when you aren't paying any shipping.

Thanks,
There is one not too far from me that does the ship to store;
pecan is scarce 'round these parts.

check e-bay, i buy off that site and sent right to my home

I used ebay for my last batch of apple wood, but the shipping costs kill you. I guess if you had a source close to you it would work, but I was getting shipping costs over $10.00 for 10 lbs of wood.

Cabella's has a pretty good shipping deal. They charge by the price and not the weight.

i work at that warehouse that will ship to your store... Lexington SC

i just got a bag of pecan myself today from the warehouse and a 20lb bag of royal oak

we also have some tabasco and budweiser beechwood chips that i havent tried yet

Why couldn't we set up a network of sorts where folks like me and the OP who have an endless amount of hickory, swap with someone in say Washington who has a ton of apple, or Texas where there is mesquite. The only thing to pay would be shipping. Even swap on the chunks.

Picked up two 10lb bags of apple wood chunks today. Ordered them on Wednesday, they were at the store for pick up on Friday. Not a bad deal, $8.29 for each 10lb bag and not a penny for shipping charges. Think I found my new source for apple/cherry/pecan wood chunks.

I use the Texas Smoke wood chunks up here. I can get pecan, wild cherry and apple. Never use the apple, I can get all I want for free. The Wild Cherry burns great with great smoke.

I like the concept, pretty cool idea.
The shipping cost is still a problem however.

hey nice find, i found on not too far from me, hard time finding apple or cherry here in houston i will give them a call manana to see if they accept the online price ship to store.

Thanks for the link. I just ordered some chunks for less than I have been paying. I love this site.

Thank you for posting this. I just saved $33.00 on shipping on 30 lb of wood and the store was only 7 miles away. I never thought that I would be able to get pecan and cherry wood for $8.49 per 10lb. The Brethern pays off in so many ways.

Just ordered 10 pounds of apple and 10 pounds of cherry. Ship to store rocks the house. Thanks for such an awesome connection.

I have a peach cohered and can get as much as I need. This fall they will pull up a lot of trees and plant new ones and I can have my fill of peach wood. I love apple and cherry also but the cost of shipping kills me so I have used any for a while. I will definitely check out the web site.

I have a ton of apple, and i would love to swp some hickory. OK, my apple is mostly prune clippings. but i do have a bunch of wood at least an inch or so thick. I use them for my butt, and they are great. I cant do this all day, as it does get expensive. But i am going to either mulch them and stuff them in bags and sell them at the next fair or something, or watch them rot in my yard...cause i cant use it all.
I cook with charcoal, and use that for smoke. I cant light a wood fire in my smoker very effectively. Alot may say what i have is a waste, but it works well for me.

That looks pretty good. I have 4 stores within 20 miles and I am out in the boonies.
