• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

For those of you that have multiple types of smokers (Pellet Grills, Kamados, Electric, Offset) which do you think makes the best BBQ?

I'm not just looking for the one you like best because of ease of use, etc..I'm just curious as to which one you'd cook on if it were a contest and you wanted to make your best!

Don't have much to pick from so it would be the ys640. I think if i had a stick burner it would still be the 640.

I guess the first thing is, it's the cook, not the cooker. I know that sounds cliche but it's true. You can win competitions on just about anything if you know what you are doing and how to use your tools. That being said, I have cooked on just about everything but a big offset and they each have their own pros and cons, however currently I am cooking on an insulated Humphreys Pint, reverse flow cabinet and I love it. For me, the consistency and ease of use along with the attributes of an insulated cooker are most important, since my weather can vary, I need consistent temps and something conservative on fuel. Humphreys delivers that.

I keep a pellet cooker on hand in competition as a "bump" cooker or just for chicken at times, but you will not get the heavier smoke flavor from a pellet grill, the clean burn of pellets is not conducive to this. Anything with charcoal and wood can be used to produce what you truly need, but with some cookers it takes time to master the process.

I like my two Kamados the best. One of the first things I learned in this forum was "if you're lookin' you ain't cookin". I pretty much live by that, and the Kamados lend themselves to that concept.

Offset stick burner, no contest. Put in the most work for the best product, just like everything else in life.

For the record, I cook on my Deep South gravity fed at contests. Consistency is key.

I just prefer the smoke flavor off a stick burner more than any other cooker I've every owned.

I have two smokers, An offset, and a WSM. I've been using the WSM A LOT because of the ease of use, But I finally dragged the offset out last week and cooked ribs on it. I personally say the stick burner is better hands down. As long as you have the time to cook on an offset.

since I found this place and made a ugly drum, I haven't used my brinkman cimmaron that still love

Only have my Bubba Keg to make Q on at the moment, but it does a dang fine job. Looking hard at one of those Over and Under smokers from Academy, tho. Looks like a great design.

My Over Under makes the best BBQ on the planet.

This ^^^^^^

I caress Academy's O/U every time I increase my bullet count. My "smokers" or when I smoke protein all have subtle taste differences. I actually prefer the taste of grilled over smoked. I'm sorry what was the question???

Bludawg's response. God Bless Texas

PS: My BGE-Mini and Blacksone get used 3-4 to 1 more than the others. But since I cook out nearly every day of the week, or enough food for multiple days at once- they all get used.

My LSG vertical offset. BUT...since my fire box is insulated with no grill top, I use my Large BGE and my Mini BGE for doing a spatchcock chicken, steaks, hamburgers, etc.

Wish it would quit raining here in the Houston area so I could use one of my cookers!

Although I don't understand what you said I agree 100%
