• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I know Slamkeys always had drafting issues with his Yoder Wichita so he had to modify the door vent to get it to work, I have the Cheyenne and it has the same issues and I was not happy with it, so I too have made modifications.
This now works so much better, you need a welder and some steel, cut off wheels for yer grinder. Thought I would share. Yoder does need to make the fireboxes lower, this works good. I have not cooked yet, will this weekend, but a test fire confirmed that I can aim the firebox away from the wind and still get a good draft!!!

Looks awesome. Can’t wait to see how it works. I built a smoker and I’m about to fire it up for the first time right now

It's sad that you had to do this to fix the issue only because most folks don't have the skills or access to this sort of equipment.

I owned a Wichita for many years. I ended up selling it once I started to discover that it wasn't just me having the issues. Issue was resolved if I could spin the smoker in favor of the wind direction. I'm getting too old to do that and too old to look like a fool in my backyard. I ended up buying a Horizon 20 and havent looked back. I still consider myself a Yoder person, but the Wichita was sent to a foster home.

You sir are a god. That is just wonderful.

Please continue to update the thread with feedback and videos as you use it and cook with it.

Yoder should take note! Free engineering from the Brethren that always address the issues. Great work!

Yea, I should have done more research before I got it!
But I figured now I have to sell it, or drink some beer and cut the thing in half.
Warranty voided, but I like it now.
I do hope Yoder changes the design, the Kingman and up are nice, just the Wichita and Cheyenne have this issue from what I've read.

Excellent work! I also followed slamkeys’s efforts on his witchita. Do you think moving/resetting the smokestack down closer to the grate would have any effect? Or would that be more trouble than the effort is worth?

Ill let Slamkeys do it! I would imagine the heat and smoke would hold in the cooking chamber longer, hotter, Closer to the cooking grate, get more heat on the meat. I cooked this weekend and it worked really well, It was raining and snowing, wind blowing and it chugged along. Also can finally use the cooking grate in the firebox to grill! Its not an inch over the fire like it was.
