I went to a "BBQ" last night up here in Vermont. Over-cooked, falling of the bone, baked chicken quarters with a bit of Kraft tasting sauce baked into the soggy skin. Bland potato salad and cole slaw, some of those waffle shaped crisp french fried potatos (which were good) and bread pudding for dessert. To be fair they also had baked brie and ....... naaa, I am not going to be fair, it was a damn BBQ.

EVERYONE loved it! Even clapped when the chef came out.

If this would have been served at a Texas BBQ there would have been a riot and perhaps a lynching.

I was thinking to myself, they are all so dumb. Then I got to thinking some more and realized they all had a great time and really enjoyed the evening. I hated the food and was miserable the whole time because of it.

So who was the dumb one? Ya know, we know too much.

You can always drown out the terrible food and your misery with a couple of brews.

Throw your own party and show them how it's really done!!!!

Ya, Lots of beer usually helps with bad food.

I have had a lot of bad que since I've learned the difference between good and bad. Which would you prefer, Knowing the difference or not having a clue that you were eating boiled ribs.

Unfortunately I get stuck with bad Que on occasion also. Some of my family like to BBQ but just don't know how to do it right and don't take the time to learn. I just drink a lot and eat what I am give. I grew up eating boiled ribs nothing worse than that except an over cooked steak maybe.

Boiled ribs and well done steaks with ketchup, OH MY. I don't know if there are worse injustices in the cooking world. And I have had them both.

Oddly enough at gatherings I am the one getting teased because my BBQ has to be so 'fancy'. I do not get it, nothing fancy about BBQ. Why eat/cook bad food when you know the difference.

This same scenario probably happens to many of us who are addicted to "Real" BBQ. We are BBQ snobs and I admit that I am one of them. It's not a bad thing it just is what it is. You have been invited to break bread with friends and relatives and the food is not up to your personal standards,so what, it is the company you are with that is important. The food is secondary, just enjoy the day/evening and relax with an adult beverage. When you invite them all over to your place then they will have "Real" BBQ and you will feel great about it.

I agree with Porky...unless I paid too much $$$ for bad "Q", then it bothers me a bit, otherwise I just try & enjoy myself

I just try and enjoy the party, BUT this is the only situation where I transform myself into a "picky eater" - folks will be wondering how I got this big belly eatin so little.

Yeah, we're snobs..............
When I go out to eat, the last place I'll go is for BBQ.

I've actually done this before. But make sure you wait a few weeks so you don't appear like your trying to show them up.

I agree with Porky on this one but fark.... that whole "The food is secondary" was really really hard to swallow

Yeah, we're snobs..............
When I go out to eat, the last place I'll go is for BBQ.

I wonder why?

I've come to accept that there is good BBQ (ours), Commercial BBQ (smoked but not babied), and Bad BBQ (some restaurants and some people's homes). I love the first one in all of it's variations. The second one, I can deal with and accept it for what it is. The last one, I hope the have lots of beer and a good dessert!

That's for sure! Most places think BBQ is overcooked meat with a tomato based sauce dumped over it. By those standards, they could call spaghetti and meatballs a BBQ dish.

Drowned in sauce right? I swear if you have a good sauce you could put it on a turd and people will like it. Since i have learned to Q it really opened my eyes/taste buds. But was always smart enough to keep an eye out for the turds!

Ever been to Memphis, BBQ spaghetti is on the menu, infact I make it at home & it is a crowd favorite...I do use pulled pork instead of meatballs however

Yeah, most BBQ places do not meet our standards...that's why when I am at one I will usually try and order the seafood!
