• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Anyone building or selling baskets or grates right now? If so I would like some information and pricing. Just got my Bandera in June and I really need to do some worke on it.
thanks

Welcome DGS

Al is our basket builder, and steel prices just recently went ballistic.

The fire grate is your first must do mod, and no one but you needs to do that. Its easy (If I can do it, anyone can)

Go to Home Depot and get a piece of expanded metal. Mine was 16"x30" and cost $12. Needed to cut it down to 16x20 for my firebox dimensions. took about 30 seconds, jigsaw steel blade.

Use a smoke rack to support the expanded steel

order a couple sets of extra smoking grates to replace the one you used. Use an extra grate, wrap 3/4 way with aluminum foil and you have yourself a heat shield. Use it to lower the chamber height to conserver heat/fuel on small cooks.

After wrapping my brisket last night at 170, I lowered the heat sheat to make the smoke chamber a third of normal. Temps hit 310 for an hour. brisket went to 185. It was awesome

Or, if you are like me and have not completed the firebox grate mod yet you can always take the stock grate, turn it upside down, and on the lowest rack within your firebox.

Thanks for the reply guy's, I'll try some temp fixies, but I'll still wait for Al, or someone that builds the baskets to build me one. I'm not a very handy person you see, if it can be bent, tore, broke or destroyed, then I'm the champ and should go in the record book as such

Denny, If you know anyone with a welder, have them weld three 18 " long pieces of 3/8" diameter rebar to the original fire grate, one along each side and one down the middle then weld 14" pieces spaced 1/4" apart across those three long pieces.

Thanks Neil, I'll see what I can get done as soon as Frances get's outta here.
