• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Iam a new member and basically new to smoking i have been smoking for about a year i have a question maybe someone can help me with
when i smoke i use wood chips usually thekind in the bagruit wood such as apple or pecan myquestion is a two part question first i am having problems with the woodit burns too quickly i soak it in water over night and either wrap in foil or putit in a metal pan.i usually end up using the whole bag is this the right amount to use and whats the best method thanks again for all your help

Well let's start with what cooker you have. Also you'll learn there's no need to soak wood chips or chunks....but anyway please describe your cooking equipment.

Need to know what cooker. My guess would be to use chunks and not soak them. You don't need to see smoke to get smoke flavor.

In an offset try wood splits instead of charcoal and chips

Ok thanks I live in Destin Beach FL so wood availability is bad the most i can find is the bags off chips i always forget to order the wood online I think i must prepare better

Try adding wood chunks instead of chips...

As you stated, the chunks are available at Lowes and Home Depot. Also citrus wood is great on chicken and pork.

As mentioned, don't bother soaking chips. It does not do anything. Lowes and Home Depot should at least have chunks. Also there's an Academy in Pensacola. They may have 50 bags of small splits.

Also keep in mind any wood or chips you buy at a store will be kiln dried. So it will all burn fast.
