• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Has anyone used hackberry or elderberry wood? I have some wood that is smoothed bark and sweet smelling, but I'm reasonably sure it's not cherry cause the bark is different than the cherry I have? I thought it was oak cause it was with some other oak wood that I cut.

Did a quick scan through my plant book...

Elderberry: The stem, bark, leaves and roots are TOXIC due to the presence of cyanide-producing glycosides. The berries can be used for jelly.

Can't find hackberry, but I think there is a reason for the name. Somebody should double check that though.

ouch.. i'll delete that.. I just looked up the wood I got delivered in the old group... it was hackberry.. not elderberry. Service berry is serviceberry.. thats ok too. Chris(ckphoto) also uses hackberry.. I know thats safe.

Just be sure that it is HACKBERRY! Some people call the Osage Orange (aka horseapple or hedgeapple) hackberry. It is toxic. The two trees and their bark are nothing alike.
