• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

The Mrs noted recently that the gas grill hasn't been used in like, forever, and that she likes the grillng I've been doing on the fireboxes of the smokers. Short of the rotisserie mod, she's ready to get rid of the gasser, then she saw the rotisserie setup for a Weber @ Ace Hardware and now she's on me to get one and list the gasser in the local paper (yeah, my OL's pretty cool  )
Hoping to save a bit of research by asking the Brothers, which version of the Weber Kettle should I be looking for. I know I want the bigger (22"?) one, and I want the one with the side baskets and flip up grates. Not interested in the one with the sidetable unless someone can tell me it's particularly useful.
Lastly, where is the go to source (like amazon for the WSM) for Kettles?

Sounds like you want a One-Touch Gold.

I have no idea who has the "best" price on these - seems like they are everywhere and the prices vary from dealer to dealer.

Agree with DF.

You'll have to pop for the charcoal baskets that you want. Thats and accessory on the Gold. Comes with the hinged grate (not on the OT Silver)

Stable price of like $119 at HD, but you might get a better sale deal somewheres.

KC, I have the one with the cart (platinum) and I love it for 3 reasons. One is that table is constantly being used to hold stuff; meat, tools, rubs, gloves etc. Another thing is that the rack underneath is a cool place to keep my chimney and a bag of charcoal. And finally, and most importantly, I live in Kansas, and it is always windy here and the table makes it almost impossible to blow over.

I can see this being useful as I just loaded 2 13# briskets in the FE, which has no shelf, table or other landing area for crap (maybe my one beef about the pooper).
Anyone know a ballpark on the Platinum I should be looking for?

I paid about $140. Found one on sale at Target, went to Home Depot and made them beat the price and subtract 5-10%.

You know, a pork loin on the platinum with the baskets and all would be a nice project. I haven't used it as a smoker yet. Then I can get you wise achers off my keister. :P

Don't start with a pork loin then.

I offset in my kettle all the time. In fact, I have NEVER used it for direct cooking only.

Anywho, it takes practice keeping temps under 260-270. Takes even more to peg at 240 (especially in Windy Kansas)

So if your too high temps, it will be nice and dry, just like you like it.

That's the way, uhuh uhuh, I like it, uhuh uhuh.

Me thinks I can do it. I enjoy a challenge, that's why I'm married.

Thanks for the advice. Note to self: Go easy on fire.

I offset to one side, I don't try the little on each side thing

Weber Performer is top of the line when it comes to charcoal grills. Sure it has some unnescessary bells and whistles like the gas ignitor and charcoal storage bin but it's nice. Plus it looks good on your deck or patio with the stainless steel table.

Been doing the each side thingy your right it's tuff, have to try one side thingy. Just a thought that would free up one hand to hold my other thingy then I could kill two birds with one stone. Damn this group is good.

I have a weber performer and I love it. The new 05 models do not have a stainless steel table anymore. I have an older 04 version w/ the stainless steel. I don't know how important it is, just a note. Ron
