• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

a friend is lookin for a nice gas grill in the 6 to 900 range. any advice?

Weber - three burner with whatever options you can get to stay under the $900 range.

I don't think you can get into the summit series for under a grand but you should easily be able to get a high end geniuses series.

I bought the 5 burner version of this:

$500 at Lowes.
Taller than most. Easy on the old back.
Lots of space so you can burn chips on one side and control temps all across the grill. I love burning Mesquite Chips on the side to flavor beef!

Heavy duty construction when you twist the lid and all of that.

Could not be happier

Just keep in mind that whatever you buy should be stainless, that way it will always be worth repairing such as when the burners go out or the grates need replacing.

I think there are a lot of quality gassers on the market. I have a 6 burner Brinkman that isn't top of the line, but it does all I could ever ask for and more. I bought it at the end of last summer and saved a fortune. I ended up paying less than $400 for it.

You may also want to consider a rotiserie as an option.

One more thing I always do. I will check out epinion and consumer reports to get reviews. I will also go to Amazon and check their reviews, they will be user reviews from folks who actually own one. They will also include both pros and cons. I bought a meat slicer the other day and one product I was looking at had 60 reviews and I read them all and they were very useful in making my decision. You have to weed through them to determine who is on par with what you are looking for.

Good luck on your choice.

We were very close to pulling the trigger on something very similar to what The_Kapn suggested. We would have used it for quick chicken and grilled fish mostly. I had already purchased some 2x4s to pour a new pad for it. We bought a puppy instead so the search will continue for the right gasser, that's on sale!

I have the Weber cast-aluminum Genesis B. If you are talking about stainless burners, I agree, but my cast-aluminum body has held up great for the last seven years of sitting outside uncovered thru all types of weather. If you like the way stainless looks, buy stainless, but don't get it because you think it will out-last a well built unit from a good company that's made from cast-aluminum. There is typically a considerable cost-premium with the stainless models.

The one thing I would add to a gas gril wish-list is a natural gas model if it's available in your home so that you don't have to worry about LP refills. We looked at a great house once, butturned it down because it did not have NG service.

thanks all, i am no help at all, i would spend all my time trying to find the firebox.

I agree with the cast aluminum. I should have made mention to it as well. It's just that you do not see many out there. That said they too are worth repairing when they need it. I guess you could put them in the same boat as the stainless, excuse my overlook.
