• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I don't post much but am a heavy reader of this forum, the knowledge is amazing. Recently I moved to Birmingham from the Raleigh/Durham area of NC and am having trouble finding a good store to buy rubs. In NC we had Grill Billy's in Raleigh where you could actually sample good rubs before you buy and most of them were very hard to find (Butchers, Smokin Guns, Dizzy Pig, EAT, etc). Other than Bass Pro and the grocery stores, I'm not having much luck here in Alabama. Maybe I was spoiled up there but if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

And I meant Rubs in the title :)

Guess I would be curious about this answer too. I get most of mine from BPS or order online. Mr. P's butcher shop in Hoover has their own rubs and white sauce that are pretty good, but not necessarily directed at BBQ. It's a cool shop though.

For what it's worth, my favorite local sauce is Bob Sykes which you can find in grocery stores.

Tried out any of the local joints yet?

I make all mine but Academy sports has a good selection and I saw some in Homo Depot too

Aabsco is the largest BGE supplier in the area, maybe they have some? I haven't stepped in there before.

I don't live in Alabama, but had to know what runs were.

I also make my own, but maybe the interwebz for the rubs you know you like? I've read some stores will send out samplers with your order.

I don't suppose they sell sporting gear too, do they? :loco:

Don't worry, with the right rub you'll find the runs........the next morning.

Until you do. Buy 16 Mesh dustless pepper or Tones Restaurant Coarse grind and Kosher Salt.

50/50 pepper/ KS on all beef
2/1 pepper/kosher salt on pork and chicken

Smoke at 275

It works. Specially if you do not want sugar in your rub

Alabama Gas Light and Grill in Homewood has a pretty good selection. Penzy's in Homewood also. I have found some good ones at Piggly Wiggly. Good luck!

Okay, so this suggestion was legit. :thumb:

Alabama Gas Light and Grill will be my new stop for cooking wood too! 5lbs for $10 of hickory, cherry, pecan, apple, or maple. And it hasn't been kiln dried! I'm pumped. They also had a big joe and the XL Primo in there too.

Penzey's talked me into signing up for their catalog and ended up giving me large bottles for free of the roasted garlic and curry powder.

Alabama Gas Light and Grill ... Check out those chunks!
