• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I have my custom reverse flow smoker I built last year but I don't necessarily want to smoke everything I cook and can't afford 4-6 hours in the evenings on weekdays.
I have the camp cook top I use when I'm frying Carne asada for taco Tuesday, etc, and one of my newest favorites is the char-broil Big Easy (oil-less deep fryer) that I've only ever cooked ribs in (excellent and a rack cooks in 45 min - can go into detail later)
Then finally, I have the char-broil gas grill that gets used 95% of the time on weekday evenings for speed when something simple needs to be grilled.
This gas grill is finally T.U. and I need a replacement. Is gas the easiest fastest routine for quick weekday grilling? Do you all prefer the old 22" charcoal grill instead? Green egg?

I plan on building a new open bbq pit too but again, that wouldn't be practical when I just need to fire up, grill a couple dogs or burgers and shut it down. So I'm just looking for direction with what to buy to replace my worn out gas grill...

Thanks in advance!

Typical under or around one hour stuff for me.

Chicken parts, whole birds, pork steaks, ribs (Yes only 90 minutes or less), hamburgers, brats, stuffed peppers, pizzas, sausage rolls, pork loin....

Ah heck to save time... ANYTHING you cook on your stove or most things in it get BBQ'd. My oven doesn't get used much.

No gas grill cook, no charcoal cook ... usually just the 007 which is up and cooking with minutes so for me easier than charcoal or gas. Firing up and shutting down a bbq doesn't have to take long for sure. Cooking with in 4-10 minutes and shutdown is simply laying a lid on it. Easy peasy

I love my pellet grill for ease and convenience but it would not replace a gasser

Gasser for me during the week same way. I have 5 yr old char-broil that is about rusted to the point I need a new one. About the right time of year too. Always get the cheap 5 burner model for about $200 with the burner on the side. Like to use that to sauté onions and mushrooms for the burgers while I cook them.

Nothing beats it for quick up and down burgers, dogs and brats. Plus portobellos, corn, asparagus and zucchini.....

Lasts 5-7 years then throw it away. Have used it a bunch less since I started smoking though. It will never see a rack of ribs again.

The gasser gets the use on weekdays for the most part. Its not just the heat up time but also the lack of cleanup. Charcoal is fast but not as fast - not helped by the mess as I can change clothes while warming up the grill. That order with the Kamado Joe doesn't work well with my work clothes.

Blackstone pizza oven works well during the week as well

Just for a quick grilling session,my BGE with CI grate, fired by a weed burner. Can be grilling 15 minutes after I light the lump. This method is just for quick cooks.Burgers, sausages, pork chops etc.

For quick or small cooks, I use the Weber Kettle. It's quick and easy and is already set up for two heat zone cooking (direct and indirect.

For large or long cooks I use the Humphrey's...

One of the Weber kettles, usually the 26.75 OTG but the 22.5 or SJ get in the rotation quite a bit. I cook on one of them at least 3-4 nights a week then pull out one of the big guns on weekends.

Definitely the gas during the week after work on most occasions. I'm glad this thread got started, because I often wonder how many brethren have offset stickburners with a grate for charcoal grilling in the main chamber. Mine is 20x40, has a top rack, and I use the main chamber as a grill a lot. Good for lots of burgers, dogs, chicken parts, etc. Also really good for indirect and reverse sear stuff with the big capacity. Then of course throw in the heat diffuser to get cranked up for long cooks/smokes, and load up the butts, ribs, or briskets. That's one reason I didn't go RF, because you can't grill in them. I can cook for big groups either using it as a grill or as an offset smoker.

kettle or the egg they both are fast and easy the only gas grill I have is my flat top and I love that too. but if you don't have a kettle for the money they can't be beat!

So I think I'm either gonna find me another gas grill or a BGE (or one of the other ceramics) leaning towards it more than gas now from what I'm reading.
I saw a small gas grill at Walmart- size of a weber charcoal for $78... but I don't want to buy junk either. Might be nice though for those last minute decisions to bbq when we're struggling for what to cook.

For most good smokes, I use my Bell stick burner. For the small or quick stuff, I use the Weber kettle.

Different tools for different situations. Turn dial; push starter; wait a few minutes; cook over a flame. Fast easy and reliable heat source.

Get a new gasser. Webers are on sale all over the place right now.

An Akorn for the past month before that a kettle

Get a small 2 burner quality gas cooker. That will give you the ability to cook 2 zone and will hide neatly behind one of your REAL cookers so the haters don't have to hate :-D
