• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

What to buy?

Have been looking at the new Redbox smoker from Sweet Swine O' Mine (a buddy that does comps around SC is selling them), but I'm kind of torn between that and a 18 or 22 WSM. I'll be getting the redbox for just over 300, so price does factor in. He let me cook on it, it has pros and cons, but I am used to the cabinet style and like the easier access. Any suggestions?

Red boxes seem to get great reviews. A friend of mine uses his in comps and it does well. It's a toss up between the red box and the 22 wsm. Both will turn out killer food, the wsm will obviously turn out more of it per cook. I've looked at the red box alot since it's just me and the wife, but I have other cookers that can handle volume.

Do you have bigger cookers? The Red Box will not fit a brisket. I really like mine. Look up some of the mods guys have done so far on here. It can be made to work a little better. A stand will be needed.

I think you could get more food in a WSM 18.5 than the Red Box plus a much longer burn time, if this will be your main cooker I would encourage you to spend the extra $100 and get the WSM 22.5. I have the 18.5 figured it was large enough for my wife and I but there are many times I'd like to have the extra room the 22.5 provides.

for the same money you may want to take at look at the Pit Barrel Cooker. You can look at the PBC appreciation thread on this site to help you get a better understanding of it.

The redbox looks really nice and appears to be well built, but it's small 13"x12"x14" for the cookin chamber. If this is going to be your only dedicated smoker I'd go with the 22" wsm, even the 18" wsm will give you a lot more capacity and they are well made too.

22 wsm...best smoker going
